PPP in action

Abstract The presentation-practice-production (PPP) approach is used in primary schools Vietnam to teach speaking skills. However, there disagreement about the theoretical validity and practical efficacy of PPP ( Ellis, 2018 ; Willis & Willis, 2007 ) little research evidence for how teachers actually implement their views this approach. current study addresses gap. Seven from six were observed teaching 11 lessons then interviewed on experience lessons. Analysis observation data showed that all seven followed three phases sequence they frequently added interactive activities presentation phase adapted production make them more communicative. held mixed PPP: Three spoke positively its value lower level classes, another teacher was somewhat neutral while remaining dismissive it actively sought adopt a communicative Overall, findings reveal limitations as practiced context highlight affordances making communicative, including drawing principles effective task design.
